The primary function of the secondary clutch roller is to facilitate smooth and efficient shifting of the clutch sheaves, or the two faces that are separated at idle and then move once you are accelerating or decelerating. At idle, the primary clutch is spread apart and has space for the belt, not resting on the sheaves, whereas the secondary clutch is the opposite, and its sheaves are riding on the belt.


As engine speed picks up, the primary clutch starts to pinch together and transfers power to the secondary clutch. The secondary clutch roller moves in and out automatically, and this effectively shifts the system to a higher gear ratio between the engine and the wheels, enabling the vehicle to optimize power delivery based on the driving conditions and desired speed.
